Having a novel and functional prototype, proof of concept (experimental) or platform technology in the Life Sciences field is required.

Individuals with demonstrated experience and capacity in order to successfully develop the prototype, proof of concept, or platform technology towards advanced phases.

Doing Business in Puerto Rico

Be either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and anticipates sustaining ongoing research and development efforts in Puerto Rico.

How do I apply to the incubator?

You can apply by submitting your application through our website. Include a detailed description of your business idea, your team, and your development plan.

We evaluate applications based on the novelty and potential impact of your solution, and the feasibility of your business model.

No, there is no fee to apply to our incubator.

The selection process typically takes 5–6 weeks after the application deadline.

What does the program offer?

BioLeap provides its participants with business development services, access to investors, and networking opportunities with industry experts.

The program consist of:

  • A curriculum with specialized mentorship
  • Technical assistance
  • Access to investors 
  • Access to parallel18’s coworking space. 

Participants in BioLeap will also benefit from a structured pathway that connects them with other parallel18 initiatives, including the pre-acceleration (pre18), acceleration (P18), and post-acceleration (Xpand) programs, ensuring a comprehensive learning and growth experience.

BioLeap participants receive access to collaborative connections and additional resources from various Puerto Rico Science, Technology & Research Trust (PRSTRT) subprograms, including the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), the Grants Program, SBIR/STTR, and Colmena66. 

Yes, we provide opportunities to pitch to venture capitalists, angel investors, and corporate partners through events and investor networks.

Who qualifies for the program?

Applicants must have a novel and functional prototype, proof of concept (experimental), or platform technology in the Life Sciences field. Demonstrated experience and capacity to successfully develop the project through advanced stages are required.

You must also be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and anticipate sustaining ongoing research & development efforts in Puerto Rico.

No, projects in the ideation stage do not meet the program’s criteria.

How long is the program?

BioLeap consists of a 12-week curriculum, followed by a 14-week period of technical assistance.

The program follows a hybrid format. Sessions are held online, with some in-person activities that require attendance.

 

Yes, startups present their progress to a panel of investors and industry leaders during a Showcase at the end of the 12 weeks of curriculum.

What are the costs associated with the incubator?

Services offered in the program are available with no cost.

No, all intellectual property developed by your company remains solely yours.

What happens after I graduate from the incubator?

After graduating, we continue to support you through alumni services, including networking events.

Yes, you are welcome to reapply during the next cohort application cycle, particularly if your startup has made significant progress.
