7 simple ways to become an expert blogger

Startups need to get noticed to be successful. Creating a website, having social media presence, and creating a blog are some ways to call attention. Blogging is an important tool for anyone with a business. Writing good (if not great) content that connects with your audience will help you gain and maintain a faithful clientele. Especially, if you are in need of growth.
You can propel this growth by making your blog part of a content marketing strategy. The strategy should give insight and offer ideas to optimize your client’s experience with your product or service. Your posts can also help you generate leads, by offering people the chance to get your newsletter or download specific content.
If you are testing the waters of blogging for the first time or want to improve your existing blog, here are some tips that can help:
1. Know your audience
It is a basic advice that will have you more prepared for writing. Knowing your niche will help you to get the flow of your content. Oliver Emberton proposes these three questions:
- Who am I writing for?
- What can I do for them?
- Why should they care?
Creating a client profile by carefully identifying his or her differences from others will let you cater your content to them.
2. Be precise
A blog post should be efficient and not overwhelming. Keep it short, you want to keep your audience, not bore them. Veteran startup mentor, Martin Swilling affirms that “a good blog is a short and tightly-written message, which is key to every business communication,”
3. Appeal to your readers’ emotions
Start by writing an emotional headline with power words to hook your reader and provoke that initial click. Emotional headlines are also easier to adapt to Twitter, Facebook and the rest of your social media accounts. This is relevant because: “A title in a tweet is judged and dismissed by 99% of your audience before they see another word…”.
4. Read and edit (several times)
Whether you are new or not to this blogging thing, re-read your text before hitting the PUBLISH button. You have the right to rearrange, detangle, decor or simplify even more your content to make it cohesive with your brand and coherent in your storytelling.
Also, don’t ever forget to proofread and do grammar check. Not having good grammar makes you look careless and diminishes your company’s reputation.
5. Format, format, format
Create thoughtful headlines and subheadlines that stimulate interest and curiosity to your reader. Use bullets, pictures, and infographics to make your content attractive and easy to read.
6. Be consistent
As we any content online, people expect consistency. Like they do with a TV show episode, your reader will be expecting that you publish more in a specific schedule; like for example, Mondays and Wednesdays at 8pm.
7. Be patient and build your audience
You won’t be famous overnight. In fact, you won’t be known in a long time, and that’s ok. As long as you develop a platform to acquire faithful followers, you’ll be on the right path. Create a mailing list, complement with your other platforms, learn of new blogging techniques.
Don’t be afraid to collaborate with other recognized blogs as guest bloggers or doing projects together. This is a fun and effective technique to share new audience and followers.
