Basic requirements

Our international acceleration curriculum invests in startups scaling globally.

Early Stage Innovation

Your startup is innovative, and in an early stage with 3 years of operations or less.

US or Puerto Rico

The company is incorporated in Puerto Rico or in the United States with authorization to do business in Puerto Rico if selected.

Investment

Participating startups must be prepared to raise an investment round, whether already open or anticipated to open within six months of the program start date.

Two founders

To participate, your startup must have at least two (2) full time founders.

Your startup’s team leader is available to participate through the 16-week term in Puerto Rico.

What is P18?

Phase Zero  (4 weeks) 

  • The P18 selection process consists of an initial due diligence term with a 4-week virtual evaluation.
  • Startups will participate in virtual meetings and workshops to assess investment readiness.
  • Successful completion is required to advance to the 16-week Curriculum.

Week Curriculum (16 weeks) 

  • Once officially selected, the cohort receives their $100k investment and participates in the full acceleration curriculum.

Selected startups receive $100,000 via SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity).

No, P18 is industry agnostic. We focus on startups that are innovative, scalable, and investable, regardless of their industry.

The program requires four to six hours a week. In this time, you will meet with your Startup Specialist for weekly KPI Updates, participate in Mentor Sessions with experts in the field, connect with our mentor network for 1:1 Office Hours, and much more.  

The program requires that the company have at least 2 full-time founders. Nonetheless, to participate in the program, your company must have one Team Leader and up to two Team Members, duly specified in the application. 

In-person participation in the program is mandatory. At least the team leader should be able to make the arrangements to be in Puerto Rico for the duration of the program. If not a U.S. citizen, the team must have the capacity to apply for a visa to enter the U.S.

Who can apply to P18?

Startups must meet the following criteria:

  • Innovative and early-stage startups: Operating 3 years or less.
  • Startups must be incorporated in Puerto Rico or the U.S., with authorization to operate in Puerto Rico if selected.
  • #P18ners should be prepared to raise a pre-seed or seed round (already open or within 6 months of program starting).
  • At least two full-time founders, with the team leader actively engaged for the full program.

No, P18 is an international program open to startups from anywhere in the world! But, you should definitely be willing to live on the island during the duration of the program. 

How does the application process work?

The application process has multiple phases:

 

Phase Zero  (4 weeks) 

  • The P18 selection process consists of an initial due diligence term with a 4-week virtual evaluation.
  • Up to 30 startups will participate in virtual meetings and workshops to assess investment readiness.
  • Successful completion is required to advance to the 16-week Curriculum.


Evaluation and judging round

  • A selection committee will form a cohort of 18 startups. An additional interview may be applicable upon selection.
  • Once officially selected, the cohort receives their $100k investment and participates in the full acceleration curriculum.

Applications will reopen in 2027.

No, there is no application fee.

Up to 18 startups will be selected for the upcoming cohort.

Applicants will be notified of their status after each phase of the application process.

The entity is the legal company duly specified in the application form behind the startup applying to the program. The entity needs to be incorporated or authorized to do business in Puerto Rico, in the United States or Puerto Rico as a Corp. or LLC company. In the case that the company does not have a legal firm, the program will provide you with the contacts of service providers who can help you in this process. If you’re planning to apply for any of the tax incentives available for startups, you need to be incorporated on the Island.
