Women Founders: How to Take Over the Startup World

Even with the odds set against them, more women than ever before are going on to found and lead their own companies. Although a big step, the majority of women entrepreneurs still lack the adequate representation as well as the resources necessary to achieve success in the startup world. Local programs such as pre18 from Puerto Rico, a post- hurricane accelerator effort, has been able to achieve having 40% of its startups founded by women. Other programs such as S Factory by Start-Up Chile, dedicate themselves to running a pre-acceleration program for female-led startups.
Alycia Syrett, founder and CEO of successful angel investment vehicle Pantegrion, has created a program, MentorHER which is aimed at finally giving women the mentoring they need to take the next step forward.

Startup Cities: Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico’s startup community has been growing exponentially and not even a Category 5 Hurricane could stop it. The island has geographical, political and cultural elements that make it an ideal platform for startups that want to scale to multiple markets in the Americas. Puerto Rico’s business environment is a combination of tax incentives, public policy, support organizations, human capital and infrastructure with a modern Caribbean lifestyle. With the support of local entrepreneurship programs, an international startup accelerator, and a non-profit created to promote innovation in the island, hundreds of ideas have advanced to become globally focused companies. All of this while attracting international startups, investors and service providers to see Puerto Rico as an innovation hub.

Millennial Capitalism: Conscious Entrepreneurship

We are in a time where Millennials are starting their own way of innovating and doing business. In a generation known for having an idealistic vibe, social justice and entrepreneurship have found a way to live in harmony. This tendency is called conscious capitalism and, more often than not, it is attached to terms like social entrepreneurship and social impact. It also resonates with consumers, as nowadays people often decide whether to consume a product based on the company’s goals and production practices. Giving life to an idea is no longer enough, for Millennial entrepreneurs it needs to have life and a purpose
